Chicken and Dumplings Recipe

Chicken and Dumplings served together is the world’s top best combo as everything is just outclassed about this recipe and the final dish. The best part is there are also vegetables added to the chicken which makes your dish extraordinary delicious and nutritious.

The chicken and dumplings are the favorites of my parents and grandparents so I am habitual of making it for them once a week at least and the pleasure I feel on their faces is everything to me and worth my efforts. Don’t miss out on this one.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
  • 6 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 cup matchstick carrots
  • 4 cups shredded chicken
  • 32 oz chicken stock
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh black pepper
  • 12 oz evaporated milk
  • 3 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For Dumplings

  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon fresh black pepper
  • 2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 4 tablespoon melted butter
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme

Method to make chicken and homemade dumplings

  1. Take a large-sized heavy-bottomed nonstick skillet and get your butter melted in it.
  2. Stir fry the celery and onions together in this melted butter. Add the diced carrots into this butter at the same time.
  3. When these vegetables start getting softened a little bit, add the minced garlic into it.
  4. In this fried garlic mixture, sift the flour for 5 -8 minutes. Together with the flour pour the evaporated milk into the veg mixture.
  5. Once the mixture gets boiled, it’s high time to add chicken to the vegetables.
  6. In this chicken, sprinkle thyme followed by salt and black pepper. Now set it at low heat for simmering.
  7. In the meantime start the procedure to make your dumplings.
  8. Combine the flour with the pepper and baking powder and add thyme and salt into it at the same time.
  9. Mix and then the mixture turns into a dough knead the dough. Add a bit of milk if the dough is drying out.
  10. Make the shape of dumplings from the dough and drop these dumplings one by one into your cooking mixture.
  11. Dip them in the mixture properly. Now cover the skillet from the top and simmer.
  12. After the required period, check and if the dumplings are done cooking, turn off the heat and serve!

How to know that the dumplings are cooked?

After simmering in the soup, use a toothpick or fork and inject one of the dumplings. If it comes out clean the dumplings are cooked and if not, simmer more.

Do the chicken and dumplings stick with each other?

Usually, they do not stick with each other but if sometimes it happens, you should add more butter to the mixture to prevent it.
