Indo-Chinese Chilli Chicken Gravy Recipe

The chilli chicken gravy is one of the most popular Indo-Chinese dishes that is served in restaurants with fried rice or noodles. This spicy fried chilli chicken recipe is simply the best that you can make and enjoy at home without going to a restaurant.

The saucy chilli chicken is spicy, sweet, and slightly sour that can be served as an appetizer without gravy. You may skip the green chilies to reduce the spice level if you want to enjoy it with your young kids.

To make the chilli chicken gravy, first, you need to marinate the chicken pieces for 30 minutes in soya sauce, vinegar, ginger garlic paste, corn starch, all purpose flour, and green chilli. Then, deep fry the chicken pieces and add to the gravy.

The gravy has a mildly hot, sweet, and sour flavor that makes the chilli chicken so delicious and enjoyable.

Ingredients

  • ½ kg boneless chicken
  • 3 tbsp all purpose flour (Maida)
  • 2 tbsp Corn starch
  • 2 tsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • 1 Green chilli
  • Salt to taste

For Gravy

  • 2 Onions
  • 2 Green chilli
  • ½ cup Capsicum chopped
  • Oil – to deep fry
  • 2 tsp Grated garlic
  • 1 tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 to 3 tbsp Tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp Red chilli sauce
  • ½ tsp Vinegar
  • ½ tsp Sugar
  • ½ cup Spring onions chopped
  • 2 tsp Corn starch
  • Salt to taste

How to make chilli chicken gravy

In a large bowl, add all purpose flour, corn starch, soy sauce, salt, ginger garlic paste, vinegar and finely sliced green chilli. Add 2 tablespoons of water to make a paste.

Cut boneless chicken into small pieces and add them to the paste. Coat the chicken well and marinate for 30 minutes.

For the gravy, heat oil in a pan to deep fry chicken pieces until golden and crispy. Take the chicken out and place it on a kitchen tissue.

Now, heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and add grated garlic and green chilli and toss then add ginger paste and sauté.

Next, add onion and capsicum and sauté on high flame. Add soya sauce, red chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, vinegar, sugar and salt. Mix and sauté well. Add fried chicken to the gravy and mix well.

Mix 2 tbsp of corn starch with enough water in a small bowl and add it to the chilli chicken and cook for a few minutes on low flame. (Skip this step if you want to make chilli chicken dry)

The delicious chilli chicken gravy is ready. Enjoy it with fried rice or roti.
