Chilli Chicken Recipe Sanjeev Kapoor

The chilli chicken recipe by Sanjeev Kapoor is a special Indian dish. This is a dry chilli chicken that is slightly different than the popular Indo-Chinese recipe. This dish is equally loved by kids and adults all over the world.

The chicken cubes are deep fried first and set aside. The delicious sauce is made with ginger, garlic, onions, capsicum, soy sauce, tomato ketchup and fresh green chillies. Then the fried chicken cubes are tossed in the sauce.

The sauce is fresh and the spicy flavor comes from green chilies. This dish is high in protein and low in fat and it is perfect if you are looking for a light and healthy dinner. Enjoy the delicious chilli chicken with rice or noodles.

Ingredients

  • 400 g Boneless chicken cut into cubes
  • 1 medium Onion cut into cubes
  • 1½ medium Green capsicum diced
  • 2-3 Green chilies slit
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • Oil 1 tablespoon + to deep fry
  • ¼ cup refined flour (maida)
  • ¼ cup Corn flour/ corn starch + 1 tablespoon
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 inch Ginger cut into thin strips
  • 1-2 stalks Spring onion greens chopped
  • Cooked vegetable noodles for serving

How to make chilli chicken

In a bowl, add chicken, ginger-garlic paste, crushed peppercorns and salt and mix well.

In another bowl, combine refined flour and corn flour. Add some water and mix well to make a slurry.

Heat oil to fry, dip the chicken cubes in slurry and deep fry until crisp and golden brown.

In a non-stick pan, heat 1 tbsp oil and sauté garlic until golden then add onion sauté for 30 seconds on high heat.

Now, add capsicum and fried chicken and mix. Add tomato ketchup, soy sauce, salt, crushed peppercorns and chilli powder and mix everything well. Add garlic and green chilies and mix.

In a bowl, mix the remaining corn flour and some water to make a slurry. Add the slurry to chicken and cook until thickens then add spring onions and mix.

Pour chilli chicken over the cooked noodles. Serve hot and enjoy.
