Dal Khichdi is a super healthy and nutritious meal with healing qualities in it. This recipe is a twist on the regular khichdi. It is an ideal meal free of oil and rich in dietary fiber.
Basically, this recipe belongs to Gujarati cuisine. It is a one-pot meal and is normally considered comfort food. This meal is light for your stomach and is quick to make for dinner or lunch. It is a must-follow recipe, especially during cold days.

INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup rice
- 1 cup dal
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped tomato
- 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tbsp chopped green chilies
- 1 tbsp cumin (zeera)
- 2 tbsp dhania powder
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp red chili powder
- A pinch of hing
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 whole red chili
- Freshly chopped coriander leaves to garnish
- 8-10 curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- Sugar to taste
- Ginger garlic paste
The process to make best Dal Khichdi with Tadka
- Soak dal and rice in freshwater for at least 20 minutes.
- Then give it pressure in a pressure cooker and also add water, turmeric, and salt.
- After 3 whistles of the cooker, open it up and mash the khichdi with whatever utensil you want.
- Now to make the dressing, in a large pan fry the cumin seeds till crackling and then add hing, curry leaves, and chopped green chili and fry for a few minutes. Also, onion is basic at this point.
- Then add the ginger-garlic paste and saute for a few minutes.
- At this time add tomatoes to the pan and also add salt to prevent the tomatoes from burning.
- Mix well after adding chili and coriander powder.
- Whisk quite well with the spoon.
- At this point in time, add a cup of water and the cooked tomato paste to the khichdi. Bring it to a boil, stir, and then set aside.
- Now it’s high time for tadka.
- In a separate skillet, add all the same seasonings including cumin seeds, green chili, onion, and chili powder. Also, curry leaves are added. Saute it for a few minutes and then add this tadka in the khichdi. Mix well.
