Ingredients

  • 1 (24 oz) jar kosher dill pickle spears (slices)
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 gallon peanut oil

For Fry Mix

  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • 1/2 cup self-rising white cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

How to make fried pickle

Drain the pickle juice from the jar and add hot sauce, buttermilk, and garlic powder. Close the lid and shake the jar to mix the ingredients well with pickle and marinate for 30 minutes.

Heat peanut oil to 350F in a Dutch oven over medium heat.

Combine all the ingredients of fry mix in a large bowl and mix well. Drain the pickle and toss in the fry mix to coat thoroughly.

Shake off excess flour mix and deep fry the pickle for 3 to 5 minutes. Frying time depends on the size of pickle spears.

Fry until golden brown then remove the pickle from oil and place on a paper towel. Serve immediately.
