  • 1 pound of Navy beans

  1. Fill a pot with water and add a tablespoon of baking soda to it. Boil this water at medium to high heat.
  2. Clean the beans as there should be no debris left in them. Rinse them.
  3. Your water along with baking soda should be boiled for at least 10 minutes. Turn off the heat after 10 minutes and cover the top of the pot with the lid.
  4. Let this boiled water stand overnight so that it will develop the qualities overnight that we want in our boiled water.
  5. Transfer beans into the bowl which should be heat resistant. Then with these beans add the rest of the ingredients like brown sugar, cooked meat, and onion. Also, add salt and bay leaf.
  6. Fill the bean bowl with the boiled water. Make sure that the beans are completely covered with water.
  7. Put the bowl in the preheated oven and bake for more than 3 hours. This should be baked for at least 4-5 hours.
  8. The temperature for this baking is 300 degrees.
  9. In between open the oven to stir the beans. In the end, you will get your beans cooked with a thick texture.
