Luby’s Fried Fish Recipe with Tartar Sauce

This is one of the best recipes for fried fish that is super simple to make in less time. There is no need to marinate the fish pieces with lots of seasoning ingredients. The original taste of the cod fish comes out with simple seasoning.

The three steps coating of the fish with flour, buttermilk and eggs, and crackers make a crisp and flavorful crust. This coating is used for fried shrimps in Luby’s recipes and it goes perfectly fine for fried fish.

The tartar sauce is fresh, delicious, and a great complement to the fried fish. You can use store-bought tartar sauce, but this homemade sauce is healthy and tastes much better.

Ingredients

  • 6 pieces cod fish
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/3 c saltine crackers
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • Oil for deep fry

Tartar sauce

  • 2 c mayonnaise
  • 1/4 c minced yellow onions
  • 1/4 c minced fresh parsley
  • 1/2 c dill pickle relish, drained

How to make fried fish

Add flour to a large bowl and finely crushed crackers in another bowl to coat the fish pieces.

In a medium bowl, combine buttermilk, eggs, salt and pepper and whisk until combined.

Coat fish pieces in flour first and then dip into the buttermilk mixture. Finally, coat them with crushed crackers evenly.

Heat oil to 350F and deep fry fish pieces until golden brown.

For tartar sauce: mix all the ingredients in a bowl with a spatula. Refrigerate the sauce for 1 hour before serving.
