Here is a really simple recipe for pizza sauce, but one that few people make at home. If you try once though, you’ll never buy it again!
This recipe makes enough sauce for 2-3 times, that’s for sure. You can keep unused portions in the fridge for a few weeks or freeze them to make pizza dinner easier next time!
Ingredients
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 liter of canned tomatoes, diced, with the juice
- 3 tbsp. tomato paste
- 2 tbsp. Italian spices
- Salt, pepper to taste
How to make pizza sauce
Heat the oil in a large saucepan over low heat. Sauté the onion for 3-4 minutes.
Add the garlic and sauté for 2 more minutes. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste and spices.
Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has really reduced and thickened and the tomatoes come apart well, about 20 to 30 minutes.
To make the sauce smooth (I still like to leave a little texture in it), you can use a potato masher, a mixer or a blender.
