Make the delicious cherry pie with fresh or frozen cherries at home with little effort. You will enjoy the flavor of cherries along with the delicious crust. You can make pie crust at home, but in this recipe, I’m using a store bought crust for the sake of time. Making cherry pie is fun and satisfying, especially with kids on weekends.
Ingredients
- Store bought pie crust
- 4 cups fresh or frozen cherries
- 1 1/2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/8 tbsp almond extract (optional)
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar, to sprinkle
How to make cherry pie
Add cherries to medium saucepan; cover it and place over heat. Remove from heat after few minutes. Mix sugar and cornstarch together and add this mixture to cherries. Add almond extract if you like and mix well.
Return the cherries to stove and cook until thickened. Stir frequently.
Preheat oven to 375F.
Divide the crust into two and roll out to the size of 8 inch pie pan. Place the bottom crust, pour cherry mixture. Add butter and place the top crust. Make a slit in the middle and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake for 50 minutes. Remove from oven and place it on cooling rack. Delicious cherry pie is ready to serve!
