  • 1/2 cup Moong Daal
  • 1/2 cup Dosa Rice
  • 2-3 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee or Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tablespoon Pepper Corn
  • 1 inch finely minced ginger
  • A few curries leaves
  • 1/2 tablespoons asafoetida
  • 10-15 cashew nuts
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Instructions to Make The Saravana Bhavan Ven Pongal Recipe

Add half a cup of Moong Dal to the cooking pot and fry it while being dry in the pot. It will get aromatic in some time.

Add half a cup of rice to the roasted dal and mix using your spatula.

Bring the fried mixture and wash it under the tap running water for few times and then drain the excess water.

Then pour at least three cups of water into the pressure cooker and cook the mixture in it until it whistles.

Remove the lid after a few whistles and then you will see the mixture is mashed completely.

Heat oil in a frying pan. Add the cumin seeds, peppercorns, and minced garlic to this pan. Then you should add the curry leaves to it. Add the cashew nuts to it.

Sprinkle some asafoetida into it and stir well. You will see the mixture will change its color to a brown color after frying.

Add salt to the mushy cooked mixture in the pot. Bring the cooked mixture and add it to the cooked Dal mixture.

Mix both mixtures well until combined properly.

Your Saravana Bhavan Ven Pongal is ready to serve. Serve it along with Chutney and tortilla.
