Trinidadian Curry Shrimp Recipe

Curry shrimp is one of the best appetizers which act as the main course when served with tandoori roti or paratha. Shrimp is the most demanded seafood at restaurants but by the time these chefs have come up with the amazing curry shrimp, people have nothing to do with the simple bakes pr fried shrimp.

The dish is a  joy to have and what better than being able to make it at your home with more care and in hygienic conditions. Trinidadian Curry Shrimp with veggies in it is a family favorite around the entire Indonesia and America.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoon roughly chopped coriander
  • 500 grams Prawns in large size, clean
  • 1-2 scotch bonnets, chopped and seeds removed
  • 4 sprig onions, finely sliced
  • 250 grams peeled and diced potatoes
  • 4 tablespoon medium curry powder
  • 4 tablespoon grounded cumin
  • 4 tablespoon amchur masala
  • 2 tablespoon sunflower oil
  • 2 tablespoon green seasoning
  • 4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1/2 lime, sliced

Method To Make Trinidadian Curry Shrimp

  1. To marinate the shrimp first, take a bowl and put the shrimp in it.  Pour the lime juice over it and then sprinkle the masala which we call amchur masala over it.
  2. Then add the curry powder into it that is followed by the addition of green seasoning, salt, and ground cumin.
  3. Let the marinated shrimp stay overnight and then use it the next morning.
  4. In a pan, add some oil and stir fry the diced onions in the heated oil, and add the crushed garlic into it. At this point, you have to add the scotch bonnet into it.
  5. Sprinkle the leftover amchur and all the rest of the seasonings including grounded cumin and the essential curry powder.
  6. Cook so that all the seasonings leave their flavor into the pan mixture. Pour water into the mixture by now. Boil at lowered heat.
  7. Once the mixture gets to a good boil, then you have to add the veggies like diced tomatoes and potatoes into it.
  8. Cook the mixture for 15 minutes and you will see the potatoes are softened after this time.
  9. Add the marinated prawns to the cooked veg mixture. Also, add the remaining diced onion. Prawns will change their color and turn pink once they are cooked completely.
  10. Spread the chopped coriander at the top and Serve.

Trinidadian curry shrimp is best served with Paratha. Paratha turns the shrimp from an appetizer to the main course as it fills your stomach up to your throat.

Is the curry shrimp a spicy dish?

No curry shrimp is a well-flavored dish and is not spicy at all. It has a mild spice but if you add sauces to it obviously it will turn into a spicy one.
