Dipping Rings in the Ice-Cold Water

The onion rings are dipped in ice-cold water after slicing. This will remove any sort of sourness from the onions. The step is completely optional and you can skip this dipping of onions as per choice.

Cornstarch Coating on Onion Rings

Cornstarch is coated on these dried onion rings. These cornstarch layers were really helpful in making it crispy. If you want to make the rings more crunchy you can coat them with a layer of bread crumbs. These bread crumbs when fried in oil, it is all about the crunchiness in every bite.

FAQs?

Can we drain the onion rings on a paper towel?

It is better to avoid draining the oil by using paper towels as on the paper towels the onion rings lose their crispiness and get moist. To avoid this moisture, you should not use paper towels and drain or by using a strainer or spatula.

Can we bake the onion rings?

Yes sure you can bake the flour and cornstarch-coated onion rings but they will not be as crispy as we get after frying. That is why these onion rings are deep-fried in hot oil.

Why do we coat their rings with cornstarch separately?

Cornstarch is the major ingredient in making the onions crispy enough. Moreover, it prevents the breaking down of the rings while frying and keep them intact.
