Waffle House Patty Melt Recipe

Waffle house patty melt is a cheesy, crispy, and highly flavorful sandwich. It is a damn good and mouth-watering food item that can be enjoyed any time of the day. It is a special food item at Waffle House and one of my most favorites.

Make sure to use pure whole grain bread whether it is rye grain bread or any other seeded bread. Use a generous amount of butter to make every bite of the patty melt memorable. Always use the freshly grated cheese for the maximum flavor.

This recipe makes the patty melt just like Waffle House. Make these delicious sandwiches easily at home and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 8 slices Rye bread or any sandwich bread
  • Swiss cheese (freshly grated)
  • Cheddar cheese (freshly grated)
  • 3/4 cup Onions
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter or mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 package Worcestershire sauce

How to make a patty melt

In a skillet, heat 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat and add sliced onions, and cook for 20 minutes until caramelized perfectly. Season the mixture with ½ tsp kosher salt.

Add Worcestershire sauce, ½ tsp kosher salt, and 1 tsp black pepper to ground beef and mix to season well then shape the ground beef into thin patties.

In a skillet, heat oil over high temperature and place patties on it, and cook for 5 minutes on each side. Once cooked, put the patties on a paper towel to remove the excess oil.

Spread 1 teaspoon of butter on each bread slice and make sure to make sandwiches with butter on the outer side.

Place the bread slices on a plate with the butter side down. Sprinkle a little cheese over the bread and top with onion and cooked patties. Sprinkle a little cheese over the top and cover with another bread slice.

Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat and cook sandwiches for 3-5 minutes on both sides until fully toasted and cheese melted perfectly.

Cut the sandwiches in half and serve.
