Chana Dal Puri Recipe

Chana Dal Puri! An unusual Desi food! It is a pure, traditional, and authentic recipe that belongs to Bihar, and what a fabulous dish it is. In other words, you can call it stuffed Puri as the dal mixture is filled inside the Puri. Chana dal Puri is always made on special occasions in India and is considered a symbol of happiness and joy.

INGREDIENTS

For Chana Dal

  • 1 cup Chana Dal
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tbsp Asafoetida
  • 1/2 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

For the dough

  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Water to knead the dough
  • Oil for frying

Steps to make delicious Chana Dal puri

To make Dal mixture

  1. Before any other thing, ash and soak dal for some time. Use a pressure cooker to cook it until 3 whistles.
  2. Add the required quantity of water. Confirm that your dal is completely cooked and is softened. Mash it.
  3. Pour some cooking oil into a pan and add the mashed chana dal to it.
  4. Add all the dry powders for spices and mix them well so that they get merged properly.
  5. The recipe can also include sugar but we can skip it as it does not feel that good.
  6. Cook at high flame and make sure that your material is completely cooked.
  7. Add coriander leaves and set them aside.

How to make dough?

  1. Take a large vessel and add flour and ghee. Also, mix salt with these ingredients. Add water accordingly to make a soft dough.

How to make Dal Puri?

  1. Take portions of dough and make small balls and press them and make them thin from the edges.
  2. Stuff the dal chana mixture at the center and then seal the puri from all the sides. You can use butter to keep the folding together. Roll it by the rolling pin.
  3. When the oil is enough hot in a Kadai, add the puri in it one by one and cook from both sides by flipping. We knead a slight golden color of them.
  4. Serve hot with a side dish like chutney or whatever!
