In most households, green peas are added to biryani and pulao for a good taste and flavor. Most commonly people make dal, raita, etc for combination. But here we are with an alternative to these side dishes. It is called green peas masala. In this dish, peas are cooked and then served as a side dish.
To make tasty green peas, you have to prepare them in a good paste of garlic and ginger along with the other veggies. The addition of veggies makes the dish extra healthy and full of nutrients. This is one of the best side dishes I have ever tried and I must recommend it to you.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 large-sized potatoes, boiled and peeled
- 1 cup boiled, green peas
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tbsp mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 1 tbsp grated garlic
- 6-8 curry leaves
- 1 medium-sized onion, grated
- 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tbsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tbsp turmeric powder
- A pinch of asafoetida
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp yogurt
- 1 tbsp fresh coriander leaves
How to make a delicious green peas masala?
- Bring a nonstick pan on the stovetop and heat oil in it.
- Stir fry the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Wait until these seeds splutter.
- To move forward, fry the ginger garlic paste and then throw in the chopped onion and curry leaves.
- In the next step add the chopped tomato. Mix well and cook for some time. Then add all the flavors including red chili powder, asafoetida, salt, yogurt, coriander powder, and turmeric powder.
- Cook for a few more minutes.
- Then add potatoes and peas to the pan. Pour in half a cup of water.
- Bring the mixture to a good boil. Cover and let the mixture sizzle. Continue to stir properly.
- Serve the Green pea masala while hot. Also, don’t forget to garnish coriander before serving!
